Screw it, impeach him

You know, for a while, I was reluctant to impeach Trump. Not that he didn't deserve it, but I was scared of the impact on freedom of speech. Incitement is, and should be, a high bar to meet. My opinion on it is anything less than a clear threat of violence, should not be construed as incitement. This is to protect people from being prosecuted or censored for political speech. We clearly don't want people openly advocating violence against others, but stuff like "fight" can be vague and symbolic.

However, the impeachment proceedings that I've been watching live today have convinced me to the contrary. You can watch it right now on pluto.tv or perhaps a youtube stream if you want, but basically, the democrats in the senate are arguing that Trump and his campaign staff actively knew their language would incite the mob, and that they were talking about doing this for weeks. They went into the capitol with clear plans to do harm to members of congress. And Trump had a poor response to it, failing to send in the national guard to stabilize the situation for hours.This is unacceptable. Trump knew, and he did nothing to stop it. He should be impeached alone on his refusal to concede a lawful election and actively try to steal it by bullying and intimidating people trying to do their jobs. That is a violation of his constitutional oath. Egging on this incident just makes it worse.

Impeach.Throw the book at him. Get him barred from ever running for office again. Screw Trump. Screw that guy.
