Reacting to AOC's SOTU response (2025)

AOC gave her own state of the union response too. it wasn't perfect, but it was monumentally better than Slotkin's. Far lengthier as well. I highly recommend watching it though. She went into the meat and potatoes of everything that Trump did. She pointed out how the GOP was functionally defunding medicaid and how millions of people are on it. Her response here wasnt perfect as she kept going on about how it isnt "29 year olds at home playing video games" (I honestly think we need to challenge the work ethic, not kow tow to it), but other than that, she did a good response, pointing out that it's better to do the cardinal sin of giving people healthcare who dont "deserve" it than to cut programs, and besides, people like that are typically disabled anyway. She went on about how Trump is setting up the argument to sabotage social security, and how we could solve the social security issue just by raising the cap of taxes, but the GOP don't wanna do that because they're for the rich. She pointed out how trump's no tax on tips and social security and the like is a scam, given he's trying to roll back worker protections and also sabotage social security. She gave a strong, informative response. It was almost the best response anyone could have given. She should basically be the leader of the democratic party. I'm dead serious. We need to get these last generation people who think the answer is to be timid and give half ###ed responses out of office. We need people like AOC, Al Green, Tim Walz, since he's been showing balls lately, etc. The GOP are not good guys. They are functionally evil, they wanna take away the entire social safety net and give tax cuts to billionaires, who they laud as "job creators." As if we should be grateful to slave away for them for the rest of our lives (hence why I've turned on work narratives, we really are just slaves serving rich people and we normalized and internalized this insane work ethic that justifies this logic to the American people, but also turns it into an unassailable moral truth). I mean, when you think about it, the beliefs the right has are insane. They're absolutely insane. I'm glad SOMEONE is standing up for them, even if I consider them an imperfect ally. No, but really. I might crap on AOC over the work ethic stuff, but otherwise she's like 80-90% there. She's basically young Bernie. And she's just about the best we got right now. Really, I think that no matter who the dems put in charge, she and bernie are functionally the real leaders, because dem leadership is so weak and nonexistent.
