So, the Ubisoft CEO was caught talking about gaming services for a monthly fee and said that in order for those to work, gamers need to get comfortable with not owning their games. My response is that gamers need to be comfortable not buying games from ubisoft.
IP is as such where these MFers want to make a world where we don't own anything and we need to constantly pay fees for stuff we used to own outright. This is great for businesses as it ensures a steady stream of revenue to them, but it's not great for gamers, as through the digital age, gaming is shifting from being a product that one owns and can access how they see fit, to a service that they can be denied from for any reason.
I have a strong dislike of this model. It has produced some upsides, but I also notice the downsides.
But as far as games that we don't really own, I'm perfectly fine with not buying them.
And if a company like Ubisoft tries that, I'm fine with not buying their games any more. Companies need to get comfortable with the idea that they exist to provide goods and services to us and nothing more. We don't exist to produce revenue for them, the revenue they get is merely a byproduct of them giving us good products and services. Any anti consumer behavior should be resisted, and people should simply not buy ubisoft services if they try this crap on us. Let's face it, the only franchises they have worth a darn IMO are far cry and rainbow six siege. Sure, they have assassins creed too but i dont play that. But if they disappeared tomorrow, it would be no big loss other than siege disappearing and not getting more far cry games.
