So, a few outlets I follow, including the Humanist Report, ended up covering Ben Shapiro's recent arguments about retirement. And yeah, I kinda wanna say some things about this as the anti work guy.
First of all, him not agreeing with the idea of retirement. So this MFer is literally gonna sit there and say people should work until they die. Wtf. What a ghoul. These people really are for wage slavery.
Second of all, yes, I do know people in their 70s who have retired, like my parents. Look, 65 is just the right age. My dad retired a bit later, but yeah, your body starts to go to crap in your late 60s and early 70s. Now, you can still be healthy enough to live for potentially decades after, sure. But people who work normal jobs, or demanding jobs like trades like my dad did, uh...yeah. You start to be unable to do that kind of work even going into your EARLY 60s. By his late 60s he was having trouble climbing ladders due to his degenerative joint disease in his back. And this MFer wants people to keep working? Again, are you insane.
Third, no I dont believe people die because they have no purpose, get this protestant work ethic BS out of here. If people are retiring at 65 and dying at 60, thats 15 years on social security. Isnt the argument for raising the social security age that people are living too long because a good portion of people hit 85, 90, or even higher? yeah, i thought so. So why not cut the BS.
On that front, yes, that is a huge reason why conservatives wanna raise the age. Because life expectancy is weird. You see, that whole 78 or whatever is actually life expectancy at birth, like, if you are born a certain year, you have a 50% chance of hitting 78. But if you're already 65 or whatever, your life expectancy is closer to 84. If you're 70, your life expectancy is actually closer to 85. If you're 75, your life expectancy is actually 87. Keep in mind, you have a 50% chance of living that long if you're that age and healthy. These are the kinds of actuarial tables that departments like social security use to estimate how long you're likely to live. As you can tell the real wall seems to not be 80 any more, its 85 or so. And that's why people wanna raise the retirement age on the right. They think people are retiring too early.
Of course, simply raising the social security payroll cap would solve the problem from a fiscal perspective. But conservatives dont want you to know that because they are against social security and taxes, so basically they wanna screw old people out of their money and keep them in wage slavery instead.
As I said, these people are ghouls.
Also, I think that Mike Figuredo was onto something near the end of his video about how people should at the very least enjoy their last years alive without being forced to work to increase profits. Now, I dont think that retirement is just about that, I legit think that 65+ gets to a point where youre LITERALLY A BIT TOO OLD TO WORK! Again, you might live another 20 years or so but that doesnt mean youre gonna be in good shape. People get arthritis and all kinds of ailments as they get older. It aint all fun and games. And honestly, I think we should look at work in general like that where we should wanna minimize how much time we spend working as a society. Because why should we waste more time than we have to just for the sake of economic growth? Economic growth isnt all there is to life.
But yeah. That's my thoughts on that. Also it's hilarious for someone who makes millions doing commentary on politics (something I do for free) to lecture others about how they have to work harder at an actual physically demanding job. Like, you notice it's always the rich ones with the cushy gigs telling everyone else they gotta work harder and longer and that work has dignity? Yeah. Something I noticed.
