So, watching the establishment democrats flounder in hypocrisy since the election is amusing. After they scolded Donald Trump for not being willing to accept the election results, here they are not accepting the election results. Between the protests (paid for by...someone), and now the democrats' sudden motivation to change the results of the election after they don't like the outcome, they really are sounding hypocritical.
What I want to know is where was this outcry before the election? I wrote an article back in June about how we should get rid of the electoral college system, but I didn't hear anyone complaining about it until the results didn't turn out their way. And it's not like this is a new problem, with all the talk of the 2000 election before this election happened, we all knew this was a possibility. So where was the outrage on November 7th and before? Could it have been due to the fact that for most of the election cycle it looked like Clinton was more likely to win the electoral college even if she lost the popular vote? Clinton was always more vulnerable on the popular vote, whereas the electoral college was a (nearly) foolproof fortress that could guarantee Clinton a win. If not for 3 states magically shifting to the republicans in spite of all polling to the contrary, Clinton would have won, even when it looked like she would have lost the popular vote.
And where was the outcry among establishment democrats when we Bernie people were upset about the superdelegates? I seem to remember many of the people contorting themselves into pretzels defending the concept of superdelegates, but now all of the sudden when we have a slightly fairer system on the national level (since at least electors are SUPPOSED to represent the states) that doesn't pan out their way, they want to eliminate it?
Look, I'm very happy to see the democrats want to do something like this. I wish we would get rid of the electoral college, and gerrymandering, and all kinds of other issues, but it's amusing how these people only care when it results in them losing an election. I could overlook it if it were like the superdelegates, I'm not sure most of us were aware of the rules before 2015, but the electoral college should have been well known. Ridiculous. I bet if Trump won the popular vote and Clinton won the electoral college that this wouldn't be happening.
