I don’t get the anti political correctness movement (6/1/16)

I think the title says it all. With Donald Trump being the presumed nominee of the Republican party, there’s a lot of talk of political correctness afoot. People like Trump because he’s “politically incorrect” and “says it like it is”, when this mostly seems to revolve around insulting people. Some people seem to like him solely because he is anti political correctness, as if this is the biggest issue on which to vote for in 2016. It’s not. It’s not even close. We have a broken economy, a broken political system, global warming being a thing, and people are upset that they can’t be jerks to others? Really? And even then, they “can” since the First Amendment is still a thing, they’ll just face significant social backlash for doing so.

Political correctness, at its core, is really just about being not being a jerk. About not getting in peoples’ faces and blasting them about their lifestyle choices or other aspects of their being like their weight, etc. I do admit, it can be overdone at times, and I do tend to clash with these folks somewhat when I give my blunt criticisms of various religions, but like 95% of the time, it’s a good thing. It’s about respecting other peoples’ life choices and aspects of their existence, even if you don’t agree with them. It’s about tolerance. All being anti political correctness proves to me is that you’re, 9/10 times, an immature jerk who is upset you can’t criticize others without significant social backlash. You’re not being edgy or cool by “telling it like it is”, you’re just being a jerk. That is all.
