....and Hillary Clinton's coalition went down in flames....

Well, I hope to say "see I told you so", but oh am I gonna savor this one. So, this one blogger I came across actually did an autopsy on the 2024 election demographically, and yeah, it seems to confirm that the democrats are out of touch.

Okay, so....the (Hillary) Clinton coalition, ya know, her proposed realignment into the seventh party system that is going OH SO WELL for us was basically this. For every white working class we lost, we'd pick up two moderate republicans. Blah blah blah Chuck Schumer, you know the line. I could tell in 2016, when she lost, that she miscalculated, but if this is correct about 2024, not only did she miscalculate, she royally screwed over the democratic party.

Clinton basically wanted to keep the party economically centrist by running on economic band aid fixes that barely do anything, while not going "too far left" because she wanted to appeal to wealthy suburbanites and upper class people in the suburbs of major cities. To make up for the lack of a coherent economic message, she leaned hard into identity politics, trying to win women, minorities, LGBT+ in large numbers. She also kind of took young voters who basically seemed to want economic change for granted, bullying them into voting for democrats, while doing next to nothing for them. I've discussed this at length over the years.

Well...in 2024, that coalition COLLAPSED. I mean, Clinton's coalition required REALLY running up the minority vote and young voters in order to compensate the loss of working and middle class voters going to trump. That was how Biden won in 2020, he got bonkers turnout and kind of relied on the demographics of the democratic party to turn out for him.

But...it seems like this time, young voters didn't turn out. Latino voters didnt turn out. Black voters didnt turn out. And the gender gap wasnt actually as big this time around as you'd think. Oh and young voters not only didn't turn out, but shifted hard right. We are losing people. The democratic party is losing the country. The only demographic the democratic party did particularly well in is literally wealthy white people. Why am I not surprised? Well, when you have the same energy as the republicans' McCain and Romney campaigns, don't be surprised when you attract the same voter base. You can't run on lesser evilism forever. That might work one election, but even then it BARELY worked for one in the past three. And it's been a proven loser in the other two of the three.

Basically, the modern democratic party sucks and is killing itself with this out of touch electoral strategy. Appealing to niche identity politics seems to appeal more to white people wanting to act like than they care than the actual groups they're supposed to help. And appealing to economic centrism brings the democrats to the economic valley of suck where half the country still thinks they're too far left but the other half isn't happy with their economics either because it's too far right.

Ya know, under normal circumstances, I would be being even MORE smug and insufferable about this like HAHAHA SERVES YOU RIGHT because I've been arguing with these idiots for a decade now and I feel vindicated by these results. But let's be clear. We just handed a fascist all three branches of government with virtually no checks and balances. And the Trump administration is looking pretty scary right now. So, I can't celebrate like I would like to, and I really do think that we have to focus on resisting trump right now. It's true that in 2028, the democrats might come around again and tell us that we have to accept a bitter pill to get rid of trump or else, and they might be able to strong arm us into getting their way...because the democrats have allowed this situation to get so bad that even I feel limited in my ability and willingness to meaningfully resist them. Getting rid of trump is sadly priority #1, and if we get rid of them for another neoliberal in 2028, we're likely screwed for a generation, and then in 2032 we risk losing to say, JD Vance or something.

All we can hope is our electoral system remains intact for 2028, and that by then the public realizes that republicans just made their lives significantly worse. And then maybe this will finally force a chance. I hope, at least. Because have you seen Trump's actions lately? His cabinet looks like a horror show, and his behavior so far as reminding me of Hitler's actions in early Nazi Germany. This is a really bad situation to be in, and as much as I'd like to celebrate the dems going down in flames more, the more I feel like I'm ignoring the more immediate enemy.

Either way, I hope the democrats learn and actually become the party of the common person again. Because this crap they're doing isn't working and it's destroying the party.

And because I'm dealing with the same old craplibs claiming no one likes Bernie, no, Bernie would've won, STFU, and if you let him win in 2016, the situation now would be radically different.
