So I've been hearing two conflicting narratives about why the democrats lost, and ironically, I agree with both of them to some extent.
Bernie Sanders thinks the problem is that the democrats are too moderate, that they don't embrace working class concerns, and that that's why they lost. And to be fair, I agree. Yes. We ARE too moderate. We don't properly embrace issues of the working class, and before people call Biden "the most progressive president since like LBJ"...yeah he was, but that's because most presidents were new democrats and die hard centrists. The fact is, we need the boldness of a candidate like FDR. We need someone who will take on the monied interests and welcome their hatred. We need someone who will overhaul on the economy and deliver the change that people want and need.
On the flip side, some way the democratic party is too extreme. The big issue? Too woke. And to be fair, I agree. Yes. We ARE too woke. We do tend to lean into identity politics too much. I don't think harris and her campaign were too awful on this front, I mean Harris was no Hillary, but the democratic party and its culture have this obnoxious cult of caring and prioritizing identity crap at all costs, and we shouldn't. This doesn't mean throwing anyone under the bus, it just means not obnoxiously shoving the social justice crap down everyone's throats. Yes, both narratives are right.
I think the democratic party needs to be socially center left, and economically progressive populist. That's been my brand of politics all along, and that's what we need to embrace. We need to own the libs ourselves and put the SJWs in their place and tell them to STFU already with their privilege bullcrap. But we also gotta deliver for the american people on economics. We need to have a bold agenda and try to pass it. And we need to try to actually use our power aggressively toward such ends. This doesn't mean abuse it. But should we absolutely apply pressure and push things as far as we reasonably can? Yes. The fact is, we gotta fight more like the GOP does. The dems still do this "they go low we go high" crap. And I'm sick of it. No, throw everything we have at pushing our agenda. Play hard ball. Hold people accountable when we don't. Govern ourselves like the tea party did. I'm tired of being mr nice guy here.
Yes, on economics, we're too milquetoast and moderate. on social issues, we're too woke. We got the wrong priorities, and our brand of politics is unappealing to a vast majority of americans. We need to rethink ourselves and rebuild our party from the ground up. We're in the 7th party system now, and we need to adapt to these new realities.
