So, this is a relatively short one. The big focus tonight was on freedom. There were a lot of calls for protecting abortion, a lot of "mind your own damn business", a lot of project 2025 bashing, and I have to say, they nailed it. I've been saying it for years. you lean into freedom, and dems will win the argument every time. You lean into weird and insular social justice nonsense, and people will be turned off. Tonight was the strongest night of the DNC so far, in my book. Because while there still was a little work worshipping, it wasn't as prominent tonight. Tonight was the night to focus on social issues. And if the dems are doing anything right this election cycle, it's social issues.
I don't have much to say on individual speakers. Clinton was boring. Kenan Thompson was actually the big star of the night for me with his project 2025 bashing. Huge fan of his since he did Kenan and Kel back in the 90s. Walz was okay. His speech was a little stumpy but he did have the coach speak part that was good.
All in all, it was a solid night. A bit long though. Really. This convention goes on WAY too long. It's just getting done just before midnight (east coast). people complained about this on night 1, and every night so far has been this way. People have places to be and jobs to go tomorrow, and you guys are obsessed with job creation and people working, so...yeah. Maybe make it end a bit earlier so the people who need to get up at 6 AM tomorrow get enough sleep? Heck I have a German friend who is fricking going to bed now at 6 AM because they wanted to stay up and listen to Walz. I know that Europe isnt a core audience here, but yeah. Even over HERE, it's too late.
Other than that though, solid night. And yeah, this is really why I'm voting for Harris this time. We really CANT afford to sit this one out. We cant afford to protest vote. The religious psychos are an existential threat to democracy and freedom, and we need to counter them. By voting for Harris. We can put whatever weird grievances I have over UBI and healthcare and work this time, and pick this up in 2028. Just fricking stop the religious nuts from taking over. Maybe apply pressure between cycles. I mean, i actually do think if people screamed loud enough for universal healthcare, that she would actually take up the issue. The problem is that it's just not prominent. The left kind of abandoned it over the palestine crap. The issues essential to this election are inflation and immigration. I mean, remember what I said when Biden was still running, 2024 isnt our time, the issues are such that the left is in a weak position to push for anything, and while Harris has reinvigorated us to some extent, she's kind of playing it overly safe to win. And maybe she needs to. I mean, as things stand right now, she's at only a 48% chance to win. So she's in the game whereas Biden really wasn't, but she's not in a solid dominant position. So...yeah, she's not gonna take risks. She's gonna respond to pressure from the population.
Again, we can pick this up when the GOP isn't as psycho as they are. A lot of people actually are enthused about the dems right now, even if I am not (let's face it, it's more vibes than policy, although some are saying even what harris is being is "more left" than the dems have been in a while). Again, whatever issues, I have, they can wait. This isn't the election cycle to litigate this, as much as I would like to (seriously part of me wishes I COULD vote green and for stein's economic agenda instead, but yeah, not really a good time).
And yeah. That's my thoughts right now.
